Graduation Diplomas For All

Graduation Gowns

Graduation gowns, also known as academicals or academic regalia, are academic dresses that are used as forms of clothing for academic settings such as primary, secondary or tertiary education. They are worn by students who are being admitted to diplomas or university degrees. The gowns consist of robes, hoods and caps in the form of tams, bonnets and mortarboards. The gowns are distinct to academic institutions that award the diplomas and degrees. The field of academic study in which the graduate is receiving the diploma or degree usually dictates the color of the graduation gowns .
For example, gowns worn by doctors are black in color with velvet facings in the front. The color white in academic gowns was taken from the fur trimming of the hoods of major universities and assigned to arts. Science students wear golden yellow gowns. Graduation gowns can either be bought or rented. Rentals begin before the graduation ceremony. When renting the gowns, one is required to pay some rental fee. Most rental shops also charge progressive late fee if the gowns are returned late. Students can rent gowns either before the start of the graduation ceremony or as late as the day of the graduation. The rental fee costs between $ 40.00 and $ 69.00.
