Graduation gowns, also known as academicals or academic regalia, are academic dresses that are used as forms of clothing for academic settings such as primary, secondary or tertiary education. They are worn by students who are being admitted to diplomas or university degrees. The gowns consist of robes, hoods and caps in the form of tams, bonnets and mortarboards. The gowns are distinct to academic institutions that award the diplomas and degrees.
