Awards to Recognise Digital Heroes of the UK

TalkTalk and Martha Lane-Fox, the Digital Champion of the UK are looking for people who are using digital technology to improve the standard of life of a large section of the society. 12 such persons, one from each region will be given the TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards at a ceremony, which will be held in November 2009 at the Houses of Parliament.

The managing director of TalkTalk Wendy Becker said that the award would give confidence to these people. They have worked very hard to improve lives of others and they fully deserve such awards.

The prize consists of a sum of money, which the winners can use for their digital projects. TalkTalk will give £5,000 to eleven of the twelve winners while one winner will walk away with the grand prize of £10,000. Ms. Becker said that many past winners have said that the prize money has helped them in reaching out to a larger number of people. Moreover, it has helped them in making significant improvements to their projects.

Charities can nominate their candidates for the awards to ensure that their work is seen and acknowledged by the world. The TalkTalk website has provided an online application process, which will remain open till 11th of September.
