There have been claims that using cloud computing services for storing company data can turn out to be a safer route compared to keeping the information within the business’ facility.
According to Google Apps security director Eran Feigenbaum, data storage and managed hosting providers now come with highly trained and seasoned IT security experts in their payroll. These professionals are often responsible for keeping thousands of pieces of sensitive data safe from unauthorized access and even loss.
Feigenbaum also claimed that because the sector is specific to providing security, it can offer cheaper services as compared to building secure data centers in-house from scratch. He adds, many organizations usually need a month or two in order to get security patches set up on their systems. This, in itself, is a major concern.
Traditional IT applications and systems are more vulnerable to security threats for a really long time. Two months is more than enough time for unscrupulous individuals to hack into a company’s system and wreak havoc on its sensitive data. This is not something that any business, regardless of the size, can afford to happen.
For small businesses, contracting a managed hosting and cloud computing solutions provider is a more cost-effective approach to handling data that they cannot do without.
