Wi-Fi Connectivity - A Problem with iPad?

The Apple iPad may have lured 300,000 buyers on the very first day of its sales but the device has failed to match up to the expectations of a large number of users, who have panned Apple’s new product for its poor Wi-Fi connectivity.

Several iPad owners say the tablet gives problems while connecting to the internet and maintaining the connection. Many users have also complained that the iPad receives weak Wi-Fi signals even in areas where the iPhone connects well.

Apple has not ruled out a problem with the iPad but the fault has not been ascertained as yet. According to some users, the improper positioning of the Wi-Fi antenna is causing the problem, while others believe a software update could fix up any minor glitch.

For the moment Apple is asking iPad users to try and divide dual-band routers into two separate networks or reset the network settings on the gadget. Apple’s other suggestions - available in Apple’s knowledge base - are not of much help since most involve meddling with the router that cannot be done if you are connecting to a public Wi-Fi network.

Since an internet connection is almost a must for the iPad and Apple has not come out with a clean solution, the sales of the tablet may spiral downwards if immediate steps are not taken to rectify the problem. Speculation about the possibility of a recall is also rife.
